“A concussion is a brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or a blow to another part of the body where the force is transmitted to the head. Concussions can be potentially serious and may result in complications including prolonged brain damage and death if not recognized and managed properly. In accordance with current standards, the Tokay Sports Medicine Team is requiring all Tokay Athletes to complete a baseline concussion exam. Students will complete this on their own, using concussionvitalsigns.com. Please see the attached document for comprehensive instructions. It is necessary to put forth good effort into this as it establishes your normal brain functions and will be used in managing your return to play if you do sustain a concussion. By no means is this an IQ test; however, if you do not try, if you do not complete all sections, if you are not consistent throughout, the test will know and will mark you invalid. Who is an Athletic Trainer?
Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's statutes, rules and regulations.
Services ATs provide include but are not limited to: emergency medical care, injury evaluation, injury rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health care provider referrals. The clinic at Tokay does cryotherapy, myofascial release therapy, decompression therapy, and all athletes can be given specific rehabilitation plans for their injury and sport. Athletic trainers should be the first and last stop for anything injury related.
Tiana is available on campus from 2PM-8PM. She may be covering an event but please feel free to contact her to find her exact location. She is available via email throughout the day to answer questions or facilitate access to our team physicians and team physical therapists at firstname.lastname@example.org.
